Discover the beauty of Mallorca
Discover the coast by bike
Cala D’or and its surroundings offer fantastic cycling routes for both leisurely trips and keen cyclists. Hire mountain bikes and explore the coastal trails with breathtaking views of the turquoise sea, or choose a road bike and head inland for longer routes.
Local rental shops offer quality equipment for all levels and ages. Particularly popular is the route along the coast towards Mondragó Nature Park, where you can combine cycling with swimming in the picturesque coves.
Explore hidden coves by car
Renting a car will open the door to exploring the most beautiful parts of the island. Within a 30-minute drive from Cala D’or you can reach stunning beaches such as Cala Mondragó, Cala Llombards or S’Amarador – all beaches with white sand and crystal clear waters.
Take a day trip to the historic town of Palma de Mallorca (about an hour’s drive) or to the photogenic Cap de Formentor in the north of the island, where steep cliffs meet the azure sea in one of the most photographed spots in the Mediterranean.
Hiking through the Mondragó Nature Park
Just 15 minutes from Cala D’or is the Mondragó Natural Park, a green oasis with marked hiking trails of varying difficulty. The park combines Mediterranean pine vegetation with wetlands where you can observe local birds. Easy trails take you through the park to stunning beaches such as Cala Mondragó and S’Amarador.
Remember to pack water, headwear and sunscreen, especially in the summer months when temperatures can be high.
Experience the picturesque markets and crafts
Spice up your stay with a visit to traditional Mallorcan markets. One of the best local markets is held every Wednesday in the centre of Santanyí (about 15 minutes away), where you can buy fresh produce, handicrafts, clothes and souvenirs.
In Cala D’or itself, you’ll find a small market on Friday evening focused on handicrafts. These markets are not only a great opportunity to shop, but also to get to know the local culture and taste traditional Mallorcan delicacies such as sobrasada or ensaïmada.
Discover the underwater world
The clear waters around Cala D’or are ideal for snorkelling and diving. Several local centres offer equipment for hire and courses for beginners. We particularly recommend the coves of Cala Gran and Cala Petita, where even beginners can admire the colourful fish, starfish and underwater flora.
For more experienced divers, boat trips are organized to the caves and reefs in the area, where you can also encounter octopuses, moray eels and other fascinating sea creatures.
Cruise along the east coast
Rent a boat (you don’t even need a licence for smaller motorboats) and explore the east coast of Mallorca from the sea. The marina in Cala D’or offers a wide range of options from small motor boats to luxury skippered yachts.
An unforgettable experience is a cruise to Cabrera Island, which is a national park, or discovering hidden caves and coves where you can’t go by land. Anchorages in beautiful bays like Cala Mitjana or Cala Sa Nau allow you to enjoy swimming away from crowded beaches.
Es Trenc virgin beach
One of Mallorca’s greatest treasures is undoubtedly Es Trenc beach, about 40 minutes’ drive from Cala D’or. This almost three-kilometre long beach with fine white sand and turquoise clear water is often compared to the beaches of the Caribbean.
Unlike many other popular destinations in Mallorca, Es Trenc remains unthreatened by development as it is part of a protected natural area. As a result, it retains its natural, unspoilt character with beautiful sand dunes and coastal vegetation in the background.
In the high season, we recommend arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the peak tourist rush. There are a few food stalls on the beach, but be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen and an umbrella as there is little natural shade.
Dramatic Sa Calobra
For lovers of dramatic scenery, a must-stop is Sa Calobra in the northwest of the island (approximately 2 hours drive from Cala D’or). This area is famous for its breathtaking 26-turn road that winds down from the UNESCO-listed Tramuntana Mountains to the sea.
Sa Calobra beach itself is hidden among the massive cliffs and can be reached through a passage between the rocks. This place, where the Torrent de Pareis mountain canyon meets the sea, is one of the most photogenic in Mallorca.
For an even more interesting experience, you can arrive in Sa Calobra by boat from Port de Sóller and then return by rental car. This combination allows you to see this natural wonder both from the sea and from the beautiful mountain road.
We recommend that you plan your visit to Sa Calobra during the off-peak hours of the day, when you can better enjoy the beauty of this place without the crowds of tourists.
